Why I Tried This Mascara
This mascara went viral a while back, and I kept seeing it pop up everywhere. At around $10, I figured why not test if the hype was real. I’ve been using it almost daily for about two months now.
Short answer: it’s pretty good for the price, but it’s not miracle-level.
Quick Specs
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Type | Volumizing and lengthening |
| Brush | Flexible, curved wand |
| Formula | Regular or waterproof |
| Cruelty-Free | No |
How It Actually Performs
The brush is flexible and bendy, which I wasn’t sure about at first. But it actually makes application easier since it curves to your lash line. The formula is buildable - one coat gives natural length, two or three coats gets you more dramatic results.
What works well:
- Length is noticeable, even with one coat
- Doesn’t clump much if you wipe excess off the wand
- The flexible brush reaches corner lashes easily
- Washes off without too much effort (regular formula)
Where it falls short:
- The volume claims are a bit exaggerated - it’s more lengthening than volumizing
- Can flake toward the end of a long day
- The regular formula smudges if you have oily lids (I do)
- Sometimes transfers to my under-eye if I rub my eyes
How It Compares to Other Drugstore Options
I’ve tried a lot of drugstore mascaras. This one does length better than most at this price. But for volume specifically, I still think L’Oreal Voluminous does a better job.
| What I’m Comparing | Sky High | L’Oreal Voluminous | CoverGirl Lash Blast |
|---|---|---|---|
| Length | Strong | Medium | Strong |
| Volume | Medium | High | Medium |
| Flaking | Some | Less | Some |
| Price | ~$10 | ~$10 | ~$9 |
The Waterproof vs Regular Debate
I started with the regular formula and switched to waterproof after dealing with smudging. The waterproof version holds up much better through a full day, but it’s harder to remove. You’ll want an oil-based makeup remover or micellar water.
If you don’t have oily lids and don’t plan on crying or sweating, the regular formula is easier to deal with at the end of the day.
Is It Worth Buying?
For under $15, yes. It’s a solid lengthening mascara that photographs well and performs better than a lot of similarly priced options. The flexible brush is actually useful, not just a gimmick.
But temper your expectations. This isn’t going to replace a high-end mascara or give you false lash effects. It’s a good everyday mascara that does the job without breaking the bank.
I’d recommend it for:
- Anyone wanting longer-looking lashes on a budget
- People who prefer buildable formulas
- Mascara beginners (the brush is forgiving)
Maybe skip if:
- You need serious volume
- You have oily lids and hate waterproof formulas
- You want something that lasts 12+ hours without touch-ups
My Verdict
It’s become my go-to weekday mascara. I save fancier options for occasions when I want more drama. For the price and availability (it’s everywhere), you can’t really go wrong giving it a shot.
