AirPods Pro 2nd Generation Tested: Is It Worth It?

Six Months Later

My coworker convinced me to try the AirPods Pro 2 after I complained about my old wireless earbuds dying during Zoom calls. I’ve been using them daily since then - for work calls, commuting, gym sessions, you name it. Here’s my honest take.

The Good Stuff

Noise Cancellation Actually Works

I was skeptical about ANC on earbuds this small, but it genuinely blocks out most background noise. The rumble of the subway, office chatter, the guy at the gym who grunts too loud - all significantly reduced. Not silent, but enough that I can focus on podcasts or music without cranking the volume.

Sound Quality

They sound better than I expected for earbuds. Bass is punchy without being overwhelming, and vocals come through clearly. Are they audiophile quality? No. But for portable earbuds, I’m happy with them. The spatial audio feature is cool for movies, though I don’t use it much for music.

The Little Things

The case charges wirelessly and has a Find My speaker built in. I’ve actually used that feature twice when the case slipped between couch cushions. The volume swipe controls on the stems took some getting used to, but now I prefer them to buttons.

The Annoying Parts

Battery Life is Just Okay

Apple claims six hours, and I get maybe four and a half with ANC on. The case gives you several charges, so it’s not a huge deal, but I wish they lasted a bit longer.

They Fall Out Sometimes

I have the medium tips in, but during intense workouts, they can work loose. Had one pop out on the treadmill once. Your mileage may vary depending on your ear shape.

Price

Let’s be honest, these aren’t cheap. At this price point, there are solid alternatives from Sony and Bose. You’re paying a premium for Apple ecosystem integration.

Quick Thoughts

Good for:

  • iPhone users who want seamless switching between devices
  • Commuters who need noise cancellation
  • People tired of untangling wired earbuds

Maybe skip if:

  • You’re on Android (they work, but you lose features)
  • You want the absolute best battery life
  • You’re looking for a budget option

Bottom Line

I like them. They’re not perfect, and the price still stings a little. But the convenience factor - they just work with my iPhone, iPad, and MacBook without any fuss - keeps me using them every day. Would I buy them again? Probably, yeah.
